Fashion Week Preview: Raul Melgoza Heads to Yosemite for Fall

Luca Luca Fall 2011New York Fashion Week is coming up and designers are frantically putting the finishing touches on their collections. Raul Melgoza, creative director of Luca Luca, took time out to chat with StyleBistro about what to expect from his February 10 show.
For fall, Melgoza ventures to Yosemite looking for beauty and adventure in deep autumn forests, just as their leaves are changing colors. The influence can be seen in his choice of hues: olive, ochre, burnt sienna and fuchsia.
Melgoza's Fall 2011 collection is aimed at a sophisticated yet uninhibited, sexy woman—a strong adventurer who begins her expedition in classic, tailored equestrian pieces. As her journey progresses, her clothing becomes more flowy and graceful and she becomes entwined in the fantasy and whimsy of the forest. Melgoza incorporates many textures into the pieces, contrasting leather and suede with lace, embroidery and willowy prints. Feminine silhouettes tone down the masculinity of the fabrics.
Melgoza says glamazon and "it" girl Blake Lively embodies the characteristics of the woman he's designing for, but would love to see rising style star Carey Mulligan wearing his pieces. Of all of his designs, a leather cape with fur sleeves is his favorite.
Check back later this week for more StyleBistro coverage from New York Fashion Week. Until then, check out Luca Luca's Spring 2011 collection here:
