TAKE your pick from the wide offering of colours seen on lips over the course of Paris Fashion Week, from the nudest of the nude to the dark and delicious - as is often to be expected of autumn/winter beauty. But take note - the chosen colours are not as traditional as you might think, as make-up artists decide to custom blend colour so as to make the new season pouts something to get lips talking. Whether it's rich chocolate brown as seen at Loewe, off-red and dripping in gloss at Hermes, aubergine stain at Kenzo or fuchsia red with an accented cupid's bow at Sonia Rykiel, the main statement has been to reach for the deepest pigment possible. The lip contradiction of the day? Look to YSL, where lips started off as bright purple to coincide with fabric from the collection, only to be changed at the very last minute by make-up artist, Pat McGrath and designer Stefano Pilati, who decided to strip lips right down to a matte and powdered neutral shade so as to not detract from the clothes. What message to take from this chop-and-change story? Experiment with all manner of colour on the lips - if it doesn't work, it can be removed and toned down as easily as it is applied. You see, even the professionals are doing it.
